Don't be fooled by programs charging $50 bucks to get you to jump higher. They aren't going to have a special secret, they are going to have you working out hard. You need leg strength and quickness to jump high. This takes intense training and that's the secret. No need to do thousands of jumps, but doing a lot is okay as long as you rest plenty between sets. Keep your reps low so that you can jump your highest each time you jump. Stay within 6 to 10 reps for each set and make sure you rest a minute or two in between each set.
Be aware of how far forward you lean when you approach. Also be aware of how far back you swing your arms. The farther behind you your arms get (while staying straight) the more force they will be able to put against the ground and the higher you will end up going. They should be well in front of you if not above your head when your feet leave the ground. Arm swing alone can add a couple inches to your vert if you aren't doing it correctly.
